FAQ
Can I order my MAGAPAN unseasoned?
Yes! Send us an email at orders@magapancakes.com and specify that you'd like your MAGAPAN unseasoned, and we'll prepare your order accordingly. You will receive a confirmation email within two working days.
Note: When we ship your MAGAPAN unseasoned we will coat it with mineral oil to protect it during shipment. When received, wash the skillet, and season it with your preferred method of choice.
Why is my MAGAPAN dark bronze and not black in color?
Cast iron is naturally grey or silver-like in color, if you order an unseasoned MAGAPAN it will arrive this color, but when we slow-season the MAGAPAN, we apply 3-4 ultra-thin coats, over several hours, which give the MAGAPAN its rich dark bronze color. With use, the cast iron will naturally darken over time to the black color we typically associate with cast iron.
What kind of oil is used to season the MAGAPAN?
We season our skillets with certified non-GMO, 100% organic grapeseed oil. If you have a particular need or preference, please let us know! Send us an email at support@magapancakes.com, and we'll do our best to accommodate.
What is the best way to clean my MAGAPAN?
A quick wash with soap and warm water will not break down the hard polymerized seasoning layer. The important thing is to completely dry the MAGAPAN after cleaning, and to coat the skillet with a thin protective layer of your preferred oil, absorbing any excess. Keeping your skillet coated will help your skillet last generations.
Why are my pancakes sticking?
Every MAGAPAN is seasoned with 3-4 thin coats and should be ready to pancake upon arrival. However, there are several factors that can contribute to the pancake sticking on a new cast iron skillet. Always pre-heat your skillet for several minutes on low-medium heat to allow the heat to evenly distribute. When first breaking-in your new cast iron, it may be necessary to use a little more oil than usual for the first few uses. The skillet will build additional layers of seasoning as more oils are cooked into the iron. Don't give up! With a little patience, your pancakes will slide right out! Most of all, HAVE FUN!
Note: Always avoid drastic temperature changes with cast iron to avoid warping, other damage, or possible injury caused by thermal shock and heating or cooling cast iron too rapidly.
Is the MAGAPAN safe for the grill?
Yes! MAGAPAN loves the outdoors!
